Civil 3D Pressure Pipe Fitting Showing the Wrong Joint Type? Here's the Fix
Civil 3D pressure pipe networks have come a long way. There's some great functionality built into how they work. But a few things about setting them up aren't especially intuitive, and some of the more useful features take a workaround to actually access.
The biggest case for this: setting up your parts list for the first time can make it look like there are fewer options than there actually are. When you're adding fittings and appurtenances, here's how to make sure you're accessing every possible joint type you might need, rather than getting stuck with whatever default shows up when you add a specific size.
How to fix it:
Typically, when you add a fitting, you'll pick a specific size from a dropdown, and that size will only show one joint type option. Often, that's a plain end, which is far less common than the mechanical or push-on joints most projects call for.
To get around this, use Add All Sizes, even if you only need one specific size. This is the only way to unlock every joint type option for that part.
Click OK. This pulls in every size and joint type combination in the catalog, more than you'll actually use.
Shift-click to select the sizes and joint types you don't need, right-click, and delete. What's left is just what you actually want.
Save this as your pressure parts list and pull it into your template. Now every future project has every joint type and size you commonly use already built in, no need to repeat this process.
Getting this right matters more than it seems. If you add the wrong joint type to your profile, it's going to look off, and anyone reviewing the plan set will be able to tell.
